Located in Henry County, Georgia, McDonough is a growing city in the Atlanta Metro Area. As of 2010, the population was approaching 22,100 residents, up from only 8,500 ten years earlier. McDonough serves as the county seat of Henry County and is only 28 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta. The community is served by the Henry County School District, which operates ten high schools, and higher education is available at Gordon State College and Mercer University campuses.

McDonough may be most well-known for its annual Geranium Festival. Held each spring on the third Saturday in May, this festival celebrates the community and its locally grown flowers. It provides local artists the chance to showcase their craft at open-air markets. Musical performances and food vendors are also on hand throughout the event.

There are also other popular attractions available in the city. Military enthusiasts might like to take a trip to Heritage Park or the Veterans Wall of Honor, while kids might prefer an afternoon at the Southern Belle Farm. Restaurants are also available to suit any palette, including Fusion Restaurant and Bar, BoJaynes, and Taco Mac.

Located in a humid subtropical climate zone, which is typical for the Southeastern U.S., McDonough residents enjoy cool and pleasant winter months. Snow is infrequent, and temperatures tend to stay in the 50s. However, overnight lows fall below freezing several nights per year, so the right climate controls are crucial. An energy efficient furnace or heat pump will keep your family safe and utility costs affordable.

Summer months in McDonough are hot and humid. Average daily highs from June to August often reach well into the 90s.The high humidity levels will make it feel even warmer than indicated on the thermostat.
